Hurricane Katrina Revisited
It was about 6 years ago in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area. This natural disaster was one of the most tragic events in U.S. history. Former President Bush was criticized for not returning to Washington, D.C. from his vacation in Texas immediately and for the slow response in getting needed aid to the flood victims.
Many black leaders and African Americans publically claimed that racism was a major factor in the slow response by the federal government since New Orleans had a 70% black population. Even rapper Kanye West protested at the time, claiming that former President Bush does not care about black people.
We must study the history of events such as Hurricane Katrina, so that something like this never ever happens again.
